With the ICC Twenty 20 World Cup fever taking hold of the nation and everyone gearing for the teams’ arrival on our turf, cricket is the hottest thing around. Partnering the island’s legendary love for all things cricket with an important social topic is ‘Lets Talk Sri Lanka’, an HIV/AIDS awareness campaign centred around the spirit of cricket.

The ‘Lets Talk’ campaign was established by the International Cricket Council (ICC), UNAIDS and UNICEF to raise awareness on HIV/AIDS and reduce the heavy stigma and discrimination through cricket-centred programmes. The campaign was launched in 2011 with the ICC Cricket World Cup, with cricketers Kumar Sangakkara and Virender Sehwag acting as its global ambassadors.
Last month, they also initiated a road show that will travel to 114 locations around the country, raising awareness about HIV/AIDS through street theatre, quizzes and other fun activities.

As part of the campaign, they’ve also launched the ‘Lets Talk Quiz’, s simple set of questions that will intersperse HIV/AIDS awareness with cricket. Six tickets to the ICC Twenty 20 World Cup final are up for grabs, along with the chance to meet and play a friendly match with the West Indies and South African cricket teams. The quiz can be found on www.happylife.lk, and will close at noon on Wednesday, September 19, 2012.
