For the first time, Asia’s largest music festival is going global and Sri Lanka is the first stop on its journey for worldwide domination. The Sunburn Festival has already been ranked among the top music festivals in the world in its five year lifespan.
Percept Limited, the entertainment, media and communications company behind the Indian festival wants to take Sunburn to new heights and thus it arrives in Colombo in partnership with Sri Lanka’s Citrus Leisure PLC to rock the city like never before.
Harindra Singh, Vice-Chairman and Managing Director of Percept Limited says, “Five years ago we set out to do something unique and different and launched Percept Live, a 25 billion rupee investment for live entertainment in India. Sri Lanka as a market is an untapped vibrant, growing market for consuming entertainment and music…Percept is excited to be a part of their growth story.”

For Citrus the decision to join the partnership was also an easy one according to Chandana Talwatte, Executive Director and CEO of Citrus, “Citrus is all about taking care of people’s recreational and leisure needs. We have ventured into this avenue of entertainment; in order to bring people even closer to what they love. We were impressed by the dynamism and diversity of the Percept group and thought maybe we should put the two together to create something exciting.”

Sunburn initially started out in 2007 in Goa. Over the years its popularity has increased with unprecedented success. Last year, the festival drew its largest ever crowd of 100,000 people, outstripping major international festivals such as Coachella, Reading and Benicassim. Sunburn audiences are used to the best and faithful crowds that pour in each year to hear the best of electronic dance music. The Sunburn stage has been graced by top DJ talent including the likes of Axwell, Paul Van Dyk, and Sweden’s internationally acclaimed Avicii who has played across the world from Las Vegas to Ibiza. Sunburn’s Colombo debut will offer nothing less.

The one day festival will be headlined by the Grammy winning DJ Afro Jack-ranked number seven in the world, along with a host of top musical names from all genres and of all nationalities, including Sri Lanka’a young, home-grown talent. Festival Director and Partner of Sunburn, Nikhil Chinapa, will handpick Britain’s best for Colombo.

In the words of Sunburn’s Global CEO, Karan Singh, “Sunburn is beyond the lineup, beyond the talent- it’s about the Sunburn experience.” So don’t miss out! And see you at the Sunburn Festival on October 6, 2012 at the CH & FC.
