A two-piano treat from Ramya and Soundarie
View(s):A much awaited evening of Musical Colours on Two Pianos will go on the boards on September 20 at the Lionel Wendt theatre.
The two piano duo- artistes, Ramya de Livera Perera and Soundarie David Rodrigo have, since 2008, covered a wide range of two-piano repertoire.
The programme begins with a majestic march, which is the Introduction in the Rachmaninov Suite No.2, followed by Brahms variations on a theme by Haydn. The composer weaves a beautiful tapestry of eight variations from a simple melody. A delightful rondo by Chopin follows, brilliant and emotionally restless and shared between the players in a Chopinesque dialogue. Another uncommon work, Capricce, by French composer, Poulenc, makes the listener taste an entirely different palette of colours, exuding joy, humour and satire.
Guest artiste Maryanne David, who has introduced the joy of singing and performing to people from all walks of life, will sing in her own imitable style selections from Gershwin, Irving Berlin and Cole Porter.
The programme will end with some exciting Latin American rhythms from two popular tangos by Argentinian composer, Piazolla. The concert is scheduled for 7.30 p.m. Tickets are available at the Lionel Wendt theatre and the Commons.
