Bishop’s girls win Fatima Hussain Rowing C’ships
View(s):Bishop’s College bagged the ‘Fatima Hussain’ overall women’s trophy at the Association of Schools Rowing in Asia (ASRA) regatta held at the Karachi Boat Club in Pakistan last Saturday. Yet again the Sri Lankan school girls dominated ASRA regatta overpowering some of the leading sides in the region.
Bishop’s College led by Captain Amashi De Mel and Ladies College led by senior oarswoman Sanshiya Subramanium represented Sri Lanka in the women’s category. This year’s event saw two days of hard rowing by oarsmen and women from about 19 schools around the South Asian region.
Bishop’s College and Ladies College managed to enter the finals at almost all the events, which included fours, quadruple sculls, double sculls, pairs and single sculls, in both the Under-15 and Under-19 age categories.
The final results saw, Ladies College and Bishop’s College tie with 16 points each to win the Junior Women’s category, while Bishop’s College secured the Senior Women’s Category. With both category trophies under their belt, it was of no surprise that Bishop’s College reclaimed the Overall Women’s Trophy again, when they first won at the Rowing Centre in Chennai India in 2010. -SC
