This year too, an ICT industry leader in Sri Lanka will receive the prestigious “ICTA-BCS ICT Lifetime Achiever Award” for the contributions made in shaping the ICT industry to what it is today.

Sri Lankan ICT Industry has grown many fold during the last few years and has become one of the main foreign income earners for the country. This has become possible due to the long-term effort and dedication of the ICT leaders of the country. Since 2007, BCS the Chartered Institute for IT Sri Lanka Section (BCS CIITSL), pledged to recognise these exceptional individuals who have been instrumental in facilitating the development of the industry to the present level through NBQSA – the National Best Quality ICT Awards program.

Since 1998, The National Best Quality ICT Awards (NBQSA) competition has been organized by BCS CIITSL to identify the best quality ICT products created in Sri Lanka. This is the only national event dedicated to showcase the many talents of the local ICT industry.
At NBQSA, in addition to recognising the best products, the “ICT Lifetime Achiever” award is presented to an individual once only in his or her lifetime for the yeoman services rendered towards the development and shaping of the Sri Lanka’s ICT environment. The recipient of this award should have dedicated at least 25 continuous years of professional life to Sri Lanka’s ICT industry and record direct influence in the following areas of outcomes;

1.Generating ICT employment in Sri Lanka
2. Bringing foreign exchange to the country
3. Taking leadership in reducing the digital divide in the country
4. Introduced innovative ICT products or services
5. Taken leadership to ICT Human Resources Development
6. Contributed to the ICT policy planning, governance, law .etc.

In 2007 and 2008 Sri Lanka Information and Communication Technology Association (SLICTA) partnered BCS in recognising the ICT Lifetime Achiever. Since 2009, as the National Partner for the NBQSA, Information and Communication Technology Agency (ICTA) of Sri Lanka is partnering BCS for this national initiative.

As per the nature of this award presentation, nominations are received from ICT Industry and professional associations in Sri Lanka. The nominations are carefully evaluated by an eminent panel of judges comprising highly acclaimed individuals from various professional bodies and industry associations. The first recipient to be honoured by the ICT Lifetime Achiever Awards was Dr. R B Ekanayake in 2007. The second recipient in 2008 was Dr. Dileepa de Silva who is a well-known ICT Management Consultant and a pioneer in managing ICT education in Sri Lanka. In 2009 Dr. Gamini Wikramasinghe was honoured by the Award. The recipient of the 2010 Award Mr. Tony Weerasinghe was instrumental in introducing new trends to the local ICT industry. In 2011, Mr.Jayantha De Silva who is also the Managing Director and Vice President of Asia Region of IFS Sri Lanka received “ICT Most Outstanding Contribution Award”.
