It’s time for Galle Children’s Festival
View(s):The second Galle Children’s Festival billed as a ‘free festival for the children of Sri Lanka’ from October 12- 15 will see the historic Galle Fort and other venues around Galle come alive with a diverse range of performances, exhibitions, workshops, activities, film screenings, parades and discussions for children from all corners of Sri Lanka.
A joint venture of the Galle Literary Festival and AdoptSriLanka, the festival aims to bring children together to showcase their talents and provide opportunities for them to develop new skills while having fun.
The Festival begins on Thursday, October 11 with the opening parade at the Galle Fort – where anyone can watch or join in. Limited tickets will be available for the opening ceremony and the traditional puppet performance by the Ambalangoda Puppet Group.
Friday is a school day for children from the Southern Province. On Saturday October 13 and Sunday October 14 the programme is free and open to everyone. On Saturday, there will be workshops, in the Galle Fort, Court Square on creative writing, music, arts and crafts, cookery, games, storytelling etc. Sunday will see field trips to the Martin Wickramasinghe Folk Art Museum, the Rain Forest, a ship tour and boat ride by the Sri Lanka Navy and a fun cycle ride around the Galle Fort for children under 15 and more. Free tickets are now available from the box office until October 7 – in Galle at Mama’s Rooftop Café, 76 Leyn Baan Street, Galle Fort and in Colombo at – Barefoot 704, Galle Rd, Colombo 3 from Monday to Friday between 2.30 and 6.30 p.m. and on Saturday and Sunday between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m.
