Basith, Sachin help Wesley begin on a winning note
Left arm spinner Basith Muzammil and Sachin Jayawardena combined to help Wesley begin their Under 19 inter-school cricket season on a winning note with an easy ten wicket win over Moratu MV played at Campbell Park.
Basith’s with impressive figures of 7 for 20 which included a hat-trick which helped Wesley bundle out Moratu MV for a paltry 54 while Sachin who had figures of 5 for 23 in the first innings followed it with a three wicket haul to end up with a match bag of 8 for 37.
Earlier Moratu MV taking first lease of the wicket was restricted to a score of 132 with Wesley in their turn making 183 for 8 declared. Wesley left with a simple target of four runs needed just two balls to achieve their victory.

Richmond crush S. Thomas’ by six wickets
Richmond too began their Under 19 cricket season on a winning note when they crushed S. Thomas’ by nine wickets in the match concluded at Mt Lavinia yesterday.
The foundation for the win was laid by right hand batsman Sithara Gimhan who made a dogged innings of 95 and later left arm spinner Thisara Banuka who took four scalps in the Thomians second innings.
Sithara’s knock of 95 included 11 boundaries which helped Richmond resuming on their overnight score of 156 for 3 to make 228 for 9 before declaring. This was in reply to the Thomians score of 146. S. Thomas’ batting the second time was mesmerized by Thisara who ended with figures of 4 for 24 and A.K. Tyrone supporting him with 3 for 32.
This left Richmond a target of just 53 runs which they reached in the fifth over with Sithara making a quick fire 36.

Half tons by Gihan Nimsara for St. Servatius Matara and Nishki Ahamed for Zahira were the highlights of the Under 19 inter-school match which began at Maradana yesterday.
St Servatius taking first lease of the wicket made 233 and Zahira in reply ended the day on 146 for 4. The match will be continued at 10.00 a.m. today.

SACK hold Mahanama
Mahanama dominated their Under 19 match against St Anthony’s at Katugastota yesterday.
Mahanama taking first lease of the wicket on day one made a modest score of 193 with the Antonians ending the day on 18 for 1. St Anthony’s going into bat on day two found right arm spinner Dulanjana Seneviratne too hot to handle and was forced to declare their innings on 147 for 8.
Dulanjana ended with top figures of 5 for 41.
Mahanama batting the second time were all out for 113 runs with right arm leg spinner Buwaneka Wijeratne bagging 5 for 43 and S. Bulathsinhala capturing 4 for 35.
St. Anthony’s chasing a target of 160 runs to win were 44 for 1 at close.
