Sri Lanka lose both matches at Shanghai Sevens
Sri Lanka was defeated in both their group matches at the HSBC Asian Series- Shanghai Sevens yesterday.Sri Lankans who played a very good game against Korea in their opening game went down in a close encounter to lose 17-12 to defending Shanghai Sevens Champions Korea. At the half time scores were dead-locket at 5 points each. Sri Lanka’s tries were scored by Srinath Sooriyabandara and Dinusha Chathuranga.
In the second encounter the bigger made Hong Kong side got the better of the Lankans at 36-7. Dinusha Chathuranga scored the only try for Sri Lanka. At half time Hong Kong led 17-0.With Japan and Kazakhstan pulling out at the last moment due to security fears the game was reduced to 10 teams and the organisers decided to go for a two group format with 5 teams each. Sri Lanka, Hong Kong, Korea, Singapore and UAE were in Pool A. While Pool B comprised of teams from China, Taipei, Philippines, Malaysia and Thailand.Sri Lanka will play against Singapore today in the opening game. Later in the day in the last group encounter Sri Lanka will face UAE.
