Godahewa quits as SLTDA chief, but questions remain

View(s):

Nalaka Godahewa, Chairman of the Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority (SLTDA), resigned on Friday from this post amidst a controversy of conflict of interest owing to his involvement in another company which is constructing a tourist hotel.
When asked for reasons for his resignation, Dr. Godahewa said he stepped down to concentrate on his other new public position, chairman of Sri Lanka’s Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).

A possible conflict of interest was raised by the Business Times in an August 26 story headlined “Question mark over SLTDA chief’s current status”. That story referred to an announcement by the Colombo Land and Development Co — in which Dr. Godahewa was chairman — of constructing a tourist hotel. (Please see more on the conflict of interest issue relating to Dr. Godahewa in today’s Business Times).
