Aussie women win lacklustre game
View(s):A mediocre chase by Pakistan ladies gave Australia women an unimpressive win by 25 runs via the Duckworth/Lewis method in a Group A match of the ICC Women’s Twenty20 Championship played at Galle yesterday.
Australia who won the toss and elected bat made 146-5 while Pakistan who received a revised target of 64 runs from 9 overs, after rain interrupted play, were able to muster only 38 for 3 in the end.
Player of the match Jess Cameron top scored with 42 runs off 28 balls inclusive of four boundaries and two sixes after Australia got off to a brilliant start. Their openers Alyssa Healy and Meg Lanning put on 53 runs for the first wicket before being sent back during the ninth over. Healy hit 36 runs from 30 balls inclusive of two boundaries and a six while Lanning played a contrasting role, making 16 runs after facing 23 balls.
Cameron who cracked 42 runs off 28 balls then got together with Lisa Sthalekar to form a useful partnership of 67 runs for the third wicket. She also hit four boundaries and two sixes as Sthalekar went on to stroke 29 runs from 21 balls inclusive of two boundaries.
Pakistan used six bowlers but it was Sadia Yousuf who stood out from the rest with figures of 2 for 39.
Pakistan could not get set to face the challenge after finishing the first over scoreless and losing one of the openers, after their target was revised. Elysse Perry claimed two wickets.
