The Under-12 ‘A’ team of Trinity College Kandy emerged champions at the Central Province Mini Rugby Carnival which held at Pallekele recently. In an all-Trinity final, the champions beat their own ‘B’ side to clinch the championship which was inaugurated in 2011.

Champions- Trinity U 12 A Team

This grand event organised by Trinity College was to promote rugby at a young age. Rugby playing schools from the region – Trinity, Kingswood, St. Anthony’s, Vidyartha and Sri Sumangala took part in the tournament. In addition to these five teams, two leading schools from the Western Province, Ananda and Nalanda added glamour to the event.

The Trinity Under-12 teams also emerged victorious at the annual rugby tournament conducted by the Hisham Abdeen Rugby Football Academy earlier this year. The Trinity junior rugby teams will have a tight schedule during the coming weeks as they prepare for the All-Island competitions starting in October and these wins is bound to further energize their quench to win more titles.

Runner’s Up- Trinity U 12 B Team

The chief guest of this popular event was Trinity College principal, Brig. W.G.K. Aryaratne while its headmaster A. Marasinghe was also present. Head coach Y.M.S. Rathnayake, his assistants Gavithri de Zoysa , Murad Ramzeen and W.D.K.A Abeysinghe and teacher-in-charge Mrs. Wijeyawardene, who took the responsibility of training the youngsters, were also present at the event.
