Joes take honours
View(s):St Joseph’s College took major honours in their inter schools cricket encounter which was played at the Thurstan College grounds
Winning the toss and batting first the Josephians posted a formidable 254 all out.The Joes total was built around a 75 run stand for the second wicket between opener Dylan Fernandopulle (62) and skipper Sachin Hewawasam(35).Left hander Fernandopulle’s haf century was studded with eight exsquisite boundaries while Hewawasam had four hits to the ropes.
Thurstan started off well and were 103 for 2 at one stage but succumbed to the Josephian spinners to be 145 all out.Right arm off spinner Priyamal Perera(4/46) and leg spinner Aravinda Akuradoda (3/29) were the chief destroyers.Forced to follow on Thurstan were made to struggle once again as Spinners Yashan Samarasinghe(3/18) and Pathum Madusanka(2/24) were in full control as the hosts ended on 127 for 6 wickets at the close of play.
