Nimesha Gunasinghe shone with a knock of 106 with 11 boundaries and a six in the drawn Under 19 inter-school cricket encounter between S. Thomas’ and St Anthony’s Katugastota concluded at Mt Lavinia yesterday.

Nimesha who was involved in a 94 runs stand for the second wicket with Viraj Deepal who made a 48 helped St Anthony’s resuming on their overnight score of 134 for 2 make a formidable score of 253. This was in reply to the Thomians score of 227 which came on the back of half tons coming from Thilaksha Sumanasiri and skipper Madushan Ravichandrakumar. S. Thomas’ batting the second time was bowled out for 138 with Kavinda Maduranga who ended with top figures of 5 for 17 doing the damage.

Royal and Richmond figured in a draw in their match concluded at Reid Avenue yesterday. The highlights of the match were the half tons made by Anushka Aluthgamage and Heshan Ramanayake for Royal and Charith Akalanka and A.K. Tyrone for Richmond.

Royal made two sporty declarations with the first being 273 for 6 in the first inning and 137 for 6 in the second innings. Richmond who made a 190 in the first inning set a target of 222 runs in 34 overs took up the challenge and ended with a score of 175 for 5.

The match between Mahinda and Prince of Wales played at Galle ended in a first inning win for Mahinda. Prince of Wales taking first lease of the made 177 and Mahinda in reply scored 188. The highlight of the match was an unbeaten 106 made by Prince of Wales skipper Kusal Mendis which comprised ten boundaries and three sixes.

Ishara Kuruwita grabbed match haul of nine wickets at Ananda Mawatha.

S de S. Jayasinghe MMV’s right arm spinner Ishara Kuruwita impressed with a match bag of 9 for 44 in their drawn inter-school match against Ananda concluded at Ananda Mawatha yesterday. Ishara followed up his 5 for 18 in the first inning with another fine figures of 4 for 26 in the second innings. The performance of the newcomers to the top division from Dehiwela was impressive as they managed to restrict the strong Ananda side to a score of 155

Nimesha Mendis saves day for St. Sylvester’s
The Rajans just failed to tip the Sylvestrians over the brink and thus had to be content with a draw in their Inter-School match at Pallekele.
When time was called by the Umpires, who were subjected to a lot of pressure, the Rajans were just six runs short of a win. The target was a gettable 39 in 16 minutes.
A top score of 61 from opener Ramesh Ranasinghe and thirties from Deneth Lanka and Kavindu Thimud helped the Rajans to a score of 203. Sylvestrian spinners Sumedha Dissanayake and Nimesha Mendis accounted for nine wickets.The Sylvestrians were rolled over for 102 and, following on, for 140. Spinners Deneth Lanka and Aravinda Vithanarachchi caused the collapse.
Ultimately, it was Nimesha Mendis’ defiant unbeaten 12 that saved the day for St. Sylvester’s.
