Sri Lanka will soon have air purifying CFL energy saving bulbs that cleans and freshen the air and destroys harmful bacteria, pollen dust and cigarette smoke, an official said.

Each bulb covers a wide area and emits 3.5million negative ions per centimetre through the use of an ion generator contained within the structure of the bulb.

As a result a feeling of wellbeing is experienced, which may be of particular benefit to respiratory sufferers such as those with asthma, hay fever and bronchitis, officials, at CIC Holdings, which is planning to marker the bulb, said.

It also works as an air sanitizer, air purifier and deodorizer, following similar mechanics as the phenomenon of photo catalysis which occurs in plants, he added.

The bulb is made by Sri Lanka’s Orange Electric Co using nano semiconductor photo catalytic technology to destroy harmful micro organisms in the room without the use of sanitizing chemicals, he revealed. The official said the bulb also eliminates unpleasant odours without using deodorizers that contain potentially harmful chemicals such as benzene and formaldehyde.
