Hambantota chamber president re-elected, four women on director-board

Shaheed Usuph, Managing Director of Al Najath Import and Export was re-elected as the President of the Hambantota District Chamber of Commerce (HDCC) for the year 2012/2013 at the 19th Annual General Meeting on 21st September 2012 in Ambalantota. The chamber said 25 others were elected to the board of directors and among them were four women. The members of the new policy and financial committee are I.K. Kumara Jayasinghe -Immediate PastPpresident, M.Shaheed Usuph – President, Sudantha Akmeemana – Senior Vice President and K.H.Padmalal – Vice President. At the end of the meeting, W. K. H. Wegapitiya, Chairman of Laugh Holdings Ltd spoke on the topic – ‘How to become a success entrepreneur by preparing to the future’. The chamber said it was an inspirational speech encouraging HDCC members to change their attitudes and mindsets, in order to reap the maximum benefit from opportunities.
There was also a special session to recognise Hambantota District entrepreneurs who had been recognised recently with awards at national, provincial and district level: Dr. T.H.Krishantha of Orocare Dental Products, Tangalle – Achiever of Industries Excellence at the “Achiever 2012″ organised by The Ceylon National Chamber of Industries; Sirisoma Edirisinghe – President of Walawe Nadi Eco Tourism Project, Ambalantota – Best Model Community Based Tourism Project under the Tourist Hotels – Accommodation Sector at the Sri Lanka Tourism awards 2012 organised by Sri Lanka Tourism; and W.H.Gamini, Managing Director of W.H.G. Group of Companies, Tissamaharama – Platinum Award winner of the ‘Hambantota District Best Entrepreneur Award 2010′ orgainsed by Hambantota District Chamber of Commerce.
