AUF – Doctor of Medicine Program (MD) – Accepted in Sri Lanka and Overseas
The Medical education in Sri Lanka is limited handful number of students due to limited seats in state universities. Many students seek admission to foreign Medical degrees overseas. In selecting a suitable university and a degree students and parents must pay careful attention to local regulatory conditions for Foreign Medical Graduates (FMGs). In Sri Lanka the SLMC (Sri Lankan Medical Council) accepts both MD and MBBS degree qualifications from selected Medical universities. The Medical council publishes a list of such accepted Foreign Medical universities. The graduates of such accepted Foreign Medical Schools must meet the current requirements stipulated by SLMC including passing of ERPM (Former ACT16) examination before obtaining the registration. Such examinations are common practice in all developed Medical systems in the world. Examples include GMC (General Medical Council) – UK, AMC (Australian Medical Council) – Australia, ECFMG (Education Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates) – US and Canada. These examinations ensure that FMG’s are ready for local conditions and requirements.
