Sri Lankan student leaders shine at Harvard Leadership Summit in USA
View(s):Since the year 2000 over 700 Sri Lankan teenagers have experienced this amazing week in the USA which has changed their lives forever. 570 of them entered foreign Universities. These include Yale, Harvard, Stanford, Brown, Upenn, Washington, Mt. Holliork, Notradam, Macalister, Clark, Wisconsin in USA, Sydney, Melbourne and East Sydney in Australia and Oxford, Nottingham, Warrick, Leeds, Sheffield, Kings, LSE and Sussex in United Kingdom.
This year in July 36 student leaders from 10 schools in Sri Lanka participated in The Harvard Leadership Summit at the prestigious Harvard University in USA. Most of these student leaders were children of Sri Lanka’s corporate and business leaders preparing to take on the world into the next generation. There were 300 delegates from 29 countries. Students from outside USA represent 40% of the summit. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity for those promising teens between the ages of 16 and 19.
Every year the Leadership in Action Summit brings together 300 promising student leaders from 30 countries to explore and challenge their Leadership Skills. In addition, the students gain an enhanced university resume with credit marks and preference for admission and scholarshipsto universities in U.S.A. “The Harvard University campuses provide the perfect location for students to develop leadership skills, prepare for university admissions and to build their communication and presentation skills,” said Ananda Rajapakse, the Sri Lanka Representative for the organizers People to People International, founded in 1956 by the late US President, Dwight Eisenhower. This year too as in the past, the Sri Lankan student delegates impressed the organizers and their Teacher Leaders with their high command of English and respect for Teachers. 2013 summit Applications are now open. A free application pack may be obtained by sending an Email to; futureworldleader@eureka.lk. “On completion of this summit each delegate gets 10 Credit Hours and a certificate that maybe used for their University Applications” said Rochelle Melder the Sri Lanka delegation Manager.
