Merely a year after being formed, the Institute of Hairdressers and Beauticians (IHB) has secured a steady footing in the Hair and Beauty sector of the country with their constant and unparalleled contribution in streamlining the standard of hairdressing and beauty therapy in Sri Lanka.

IHB is accredited to the World Federation of Hairdressers (OMC) and functions as an independent and professional institution that conducts hairdressing and beauty therapy examinations that are recognized both locally and internationally. With the goodwill and support of City and Guilds, the UK based education institute, IHB has the backing and expertise of pioneers in the industry with a Board of Governors which includes Ramzi Rahman, Kanjana Godigamuwa, Chrissy Rozairo and Nayana Karunaratne.

The hairdressing and beauty therapy sector in Sri Lanka is expanding rapidly creating the requirement for professional and qualified hairdressers and beauticians equipped with the proper knowhow and relevant qualifications. As such, the IHB provides the unique opportunity for local hairdressers and barbers of a wider segment of society to raise their standards and obtain qualifications by sitting for hairdressing and beauty therapy examinations in English, Sinhala and Tamil at a very affordable price.

In line with this the IHB has also prepared up-to-date textbooks, curriculum and other study material in all three languages which are also constantly revised and upgraded on par with prevailing international standards.

Theory exams will be held in June and December each year, while the practical exams will take place in March and September adjudged by expert professionals in the industry. Once registered, practicing hairdressers, beauticians and barbers also have the convenience of studying on their own with the use of the study material in their preferred language.

IHB also engages in the training of trainers who are offered professional skills and practical expertise of international standards with constant and thorough evaluation. Together with the Chamber of Commerce in Kandy, the institute has already begun training a batch of 15 trainers in Kandy. Apart from this they conduct workshops and seminars around the Island and offer their students the exposure to international expertise.

Having already produced a number of qualified professionals to the industry, IHB currently prepares to hold their second graduating ceremony, to be held on October 15, 2012 parallel to the launching of their Beauty Therapy text book in English. Reinforced with the success it has thus far achieved IHB aspires to further serve the industry and help raise standards of Hairdressing and Beauty Therapy in Sri Lanka.
