Rocking it out out for a cause
Great news for all rock lovers – ‘Everything louder than everyone else’ a rock concert organised by six bands will raise funds for charity through rock music .
Funds from the show will go towards the charity called ‘Unity Mission’. The chairty is currently structured as a voluntary organisation with a pool of around 30 volunteers available to support ground level projects.
The bands taking part in the charity concert are Tantrum, Falling Grace, Killfeed, Roadkill, Disclaimer and Triton. “This lineup is a first. It’s the first time these bands are performing together on one stage. We invite all metal lovers because this will definitely be a treat. It’s going to be a metal fest,” says vocalist of Roadkill, Ryan Arsecularatene. Read on to get to know the bands.
‘Tantrum’ came together as a band in 2002. The band’s style is considered Thrash Metal, with a touch of technical Death Metal and various melodic elements. Classical, Blues, Jazz and Eastern music have influenced the band in their music. The band’s lineup includes Javeen Soysa, vocals and bass Guitar, Akila Pieris and Thishan Wijesinghe on guitar and Tharaka Senevirathne plays drums. Tantrum released their much awaited album, “Rebellion” recently.
Fallen Grace – melodic death metal band was started in Colombo by five budding musicians from D.S.Senanayake College at a time when Hard Rock & Metal music in the country was severely occult and unheard of in regular musical circles. The music industry was full of rappers, pop singers and mundane club bands that played the same set of covers every night. It was this drive to be different, to be original and to create music which was raw and above all with substance, that created the nucleus of Fallen Grace and which still drives the band to this day.
“Our common belief is that were put on this planet to create and play music and nothing else. Our devotion to our art is ardent. Managing day jobs and college while carrying the band forward is not an easy task, especially in a country with very little or no backers for this particular genre of music. But as a band it is our central belief that if there is a will, there is a way,” says lead vocalist Sohan Ratnayeke. Fallen Grace has now laid the ground work for their debut studio release titled “Heresy Unveiled” (Do we believe?).
Roadkill was formed in early 2011, in the same year the band took part in TNL Onstage and emerged as winners in the Best Original song category. The band’s style involves influences from Heavy/Groove and Thrash metal.
