Rajarata Uni wins 3rd inter-university mobility competition
View(s):A team from the University of Rajarata won the recently concluded 3rd annual Inter-University Enterprise Mobility Solutions Development Competition, according to a statement by event sponsor Motorola. Teams from the University of Kelaniya and University of Jayawardenapura were placed second and third, respectively.
Held at the Open University campus at Nawala, and featuring 16 teams from 12 local universities and affiliated colleges, including Universities of Peradeniya, Rajarata, Ruhuna, Kelaniya, Jayawardenapura, Uva Wellassa, and Jaffna, and the Open University, APIIT, SLIIT, SAITM and IIT, this competition showcased a number of enterprise-level mobile solutions developed during past five months.
Additionally, the 16 finalists were whittled down from a total of 91 solutions initially submitted, which was done over three weeks of deliberations. The total list of submissions encompassed industry verticals including transportation, healthcare, agriculture, floriculture, plantations, educational institutes, electronic maintenance, Supply Chain Management, construction and, even, public sector organisations such as Railways, Ports Authority, Utilities, Disaster Management and Water Management.
According to Motorola’s Sri Lanka Country Manager, Anuradha Tennakoon; “From the inception in 2010, this competition is going through an exponential growth. In 2010 we had 36 initial entries which grew to 49 in 2011 and this year it went up to 91. This shows the interest and enthusiasm among university undergraduates to learn this technology. We have seen a huge interest from outstation University students because they do not have the opportunities, facilities and resources like their counterparts in Colombo. During the past three years we have been able to train hundreds of undergraduates in Enterprise Mobility Solutions Development so that they will help moving Sri Lanka to newer heights of global mobility solutions landscape”.
