Sony focuses on Sri Lanka as a main South Asian market for new TVs
Sony is focusing on Sri Lanka as a main market in South Asia in increasing the Sony BRAVIA TV business, said Sony South East Asia Chief Representative in (Sri Lanka) M. Razali Ya’acub in an interview with Business Times on the side lines of Sony BRAVIA EX430 and Ex330, new range of Direct Lit LED TVs launch in Colombo last Friday.
As the recent economies of the traditional economic powerhouses in the West are in crisis, Sony was looking for new markets to cater to their products, and Sri Lanka is one of them following the end of North East conflict, he added.
After the dawn of peace, the revival of the tourism industry has brought a new demand in electronic appliances including television sets. The government has also encouraged businesses by reducing taxes in electronic products, he said
He noted that the BRAVIA Televisions have unique features which includes low power consumption, natural colour images, light weight, slimness and most importantly 22 years usage.
Its’ power consumption is less than 50% of other TVs, he said.
Mr. Ya’acub disclosed that Siedles (Pvt) Ltd, is marketing Sony products in Sri Lanka for over 50 years and the Sony TVs have a significant market share in the island.
Siedles Director Rajen Udeshi, said the Sony TV brand is very popular among Sri Lankans and the company is entering the North East market in a big way.
The Sony BRAVIA EX430 and Ex330, its new range of Direct Lit LED TVs (KDL-40EXx430 and KDL-32EX330) as well as Dynamic Edged LED (KDL-24EX430) launch brings a visual experience to viewers in a slim, elegant and affordable package to Sri Lanka, the company said.
