Ranil calls for discipline within UNP ranks
Discipline was required when fighting dictatorial rule, UNP Leader Ranil Wickremesinghe said yesterday at a meeting in Kandy. “We have to build ourselves up like an army to fight such rule,” he told Kandy district UNP organisers and Provincial Council members.
The Opposition leader said the party’s Working Committee resembled an Army headquarters. He said he regretted having to take action against Party members who had broken Party rules, but discipline had to be enforced. “We may have links with other parties, but we do not go and speak at their meetings,” he added.
Mr. Wickremesinghe said the Party aimed to regain power in 2014 and was looking for candidates who could contest the elections.
“Those who have worked for the Party can send in their applications. I have told senior members of our Party to find suitable candidates,” Mr. Wickremesinghe said. “There are talented young men and women who can come forward to contest. Commence your election activities and prepare for elections in 2014. We will show our strength through the ballot.”
