View(s):Alliance for Mental Health receives registration certificate
The Alliance for Mental Health (Manasika Suwasewa Sanwidanaya) received its certificate of registration as a voluntary social services/Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) from the Director, NGO Secretariat Saman Dissanayake recently.
President of the Alliance M.L.R. Perera received the Certificate of Registration. This is one of the first organisations to be registered as a caregivers association and it will work for the welfare and rehabilitation of mentally disabled persons in a home- based environment. Also present were Secretary of the Alliance Dinesh Fernandopulle and Committee Member Champa Wickremasinghe.
Kandy High School OGA dinner dance
There is just one week more for the Kandy High School OGA Colombo Branch fund-raiser “High Beat 2012” – a dinner dance at Hotel Galadari to be held on October 27. The proceeds will be channelled to the gynae-onco ward 27 of the Kandy General Hospital to purchase essential surgical equipment.
Sohan and the X’periments and Aubrey of Heat will provide music till morning at a dazzling show which will be compered by Arun Dias Bandaranaike. Prizes include air tickets from London to Jakarta.
Wesleyites gather once again to dance the night away
Experiencing two of the most successful and largest re-unions in Wesley’s 138-year history a month back, Wesleyites will rally once again on Saturday October 27 to meet and greet at their annual dinner dance themed ‘Long Train Running’. The dinner dance organised by the Old Wesleyites Sports Club will be held at the Waters Edge ballroom.
Guests will be hosted to a cocktail from 8.30 p.m. after which the doors will be opened to the Grand Ballroom for Wesley’s signature event. Music will be provided by the Gypsies while the dance band Black will also be in action. The host of the evening will be Sonaali Perera. Air tickets and prizes will be on offer along with surprises.

Ramanathan Hall past students get-together
The 24th get-together of the past students of Ramanathan Hall, University of Ceylon, Peradeniya will take place on Sunday, November 25 at the Namel Malini Punchi Theatre in Borella from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

HFC Jaffna PPA marks 150 years
The Past Pupils’ Association of Holy Family Convent Jaffna (Colombo branch) will celebrate their sesquicentennial ( 150th) anniversary today, at 7 p.m. at the Hotel Sapphire, Galle Road, Colombo 6.
Arangetram of Dilukshi Sureshkumar
The Bharatha natya arangetram of Dilukshi Harshitha Sureshkumar will be on October 27 at 5.30 p.m. at Ramakrishna Hall, Ramakrishna Road, Wellawatte. Harshitha studies dance under Smt. Nirmala John (Nirmalanjali School of Dance) and is a student of St. Bridget’s Convent.
Damayantha and Friends tribute musical show
Following the success of last year’s concert DK Promotions have organised the tribute musical show Damayantha and Friends in concert on Sunday, November 4 at 6.45 p.m. at the Bishops’ College auditorium.
The concert pays tribute to legends such as Jim Reeves, Elvis Presley, Andy Williams, Louis Armstrong, Olivia Newton John, Whitney Houston, Lobo, Lionel Richie, The Beatles, Shirley Bassey and more. Billed to perform are Dalreen, Sohan, Noeline Honter, Ronnie and Yasmin.
A special tribute to Sunil Shantha will be performed by Ivor Dennis whilst Damayantha will also pay tribute to Clarence Wijewardena. Music for the concert will be provided by Sohan and the X-Periments.
The show will also be the launch of the Original Jetliners farewell concert which will be held on March 3, 2013. As a special gesture tickets purchased for the concert will be entitled for a discount on tickets for the Original Jetliners farewell concert. The Jetliners concert will bring Anton Gunawijaya, Indra Raj, Felix Fernando, Harris Jurangpathy and Mignonne together on stage for the last time. Conrad De Silva and Damien, from UK, will be special guests. Tickets are available at Torana, Liberty Plaza, Majestic City and Video International, Nawala.
AGM of Hendala Susitha Vadana Samithiya
Susitha Vadana Samithiya of Hendala will hold its AGM today, October 21 at 5.30 p.m. at their auditorium. Attorney General Palitha Fernando, PC will be the chief guest.
The society conducts computer and spoken English classes free for needy children. The Society also helps them with scholarships to continue their studies.

Association of Urological Surgeons holds 7th Academic and Scientific Sessions
The 7th Annual Academic and Scientific Sessions of the Sri Lanka Association of Urological Surgeons will be held from November 7 to 10 in Colombo.
While the sessions will cover recent developments and advances in the main areas of urology, making the announcement, the association’s President Consultant Urologist Dr. Anura Wijewardane reiterated that it is imperative as surgeons to keep up-to-date with ever-advancing concepts and technology.
With the sessions having the participation of eminent local as well as international experts from the United Kingdom, Germany, Australia and India there will be a day of master classes and case-based discussions on uro-radiology, andrology and uro-dynamics and two days of live operative workshops in upper-tract stones, laparoscopic urology and andrology to give the best care to patients.
The pre-congress workshops including the live operations will be held at the Asiri Surgical Hospital, Colombo 5; the conference inauguration on the evening of November 9 at the Galle Face Hotel, Colombo and the conference at Hotel Ramada, Colombo on November 10.
College of Venereologists 17th Annual Scientific Sessions
The inauguration ceremony of the 17th Annual Scientific Sessions of the Sri Lanka College of Venereologists was held on October 11 at the Sri Lanka Foundation Institute. The Chief Guest was Health Ministry Secretary Dr. Nihal Jayathilaka and the Guest of Honour Senior Consultant in Sexual Health Dr. Russell Waddell from Adelaide, Australia.
Consultant Venereologist of the Ragama Teaching Hospital, Dr. Jayadarie Ranatunge who heads the college gave the Presidential address.
