Healthy eating awareness event HealthFest, which is being organised by Sri Lankan public health experts the College of Community Physicians, has called for the general public to suggest more nutritious snack recipes, which it will then publish.

According to a recent advertisement, HealthFest made clear its intention to ‘help the nation eat sensibly’ by creating awareness about healthy snacks alternatives. These will ideally be for schoolchildren as well as meeting-type settings. Further, the advertisement also suggested that the proposed healthy snacks, while being easy to prepare and tasty, should also offer more fruits and vegetables, with less oil, sugar and salt, as well as more fibre and less starch.

Giving an October 31 closing date to submit, HealthFest also asked that submissions show ingredients, preparation methods and approximate cooking times and, if possible, a photograph of the finished product. These recipes must be sent to HealthFest secretariat at the Health Ministry in Narahenpita, with the name, address and contact number of the person submitting the recipe included.
