350 new HRM stars to join the IPM constellation
View(s):The Institute of Personnel Management (IPM) graduation ceremony 2012 saw 350 bright new stars of Human Resource Management setting out to conquer the world of people driven businesses with their newly acquired knowledge and skills. The ceremony, which was held on October 22, 2012, at the BMICH, was graced by Chief Guest, Professor Sarath Amunugama, Vice Chancellor – University of Kelaniya, and Guest of Honour, Dr.Gamini Wickramasinghe, Chairman, Bank of Ceylon.
The graduation ceremony of 2012 was yet another milestone of the pioneering HR leader in Sri Lanka, as it recorded one of the highest ever number of graduates for any given academic year at the IPM. Indeed, this milestone of the IPM portrays the significant growth of the institution since its inception in 1959, and also the efforts on the part of the IPM in providing the essential training required in the making of HRM personnel who are able to make confident, sweeping and positive changes in HRM.
The theme of this year’s graduation ceremony was ‘Shine Tonight, Become a Star; Be a part of the HRM Constellation’ – a theme befitting in describing what the future holds for the IPM graduates: bright, successful and illustrious careers in HRM. The stage too was appropriately set, with décor and backdrop depicting star constellations; assuring the audience of IPM’s role as the guiding star of HR personnel in Sri Lanka; and ensuring that its graduates reach for nothing less than stardom.
The increasingly important role played by HR personnel in a world of globalized businesses was highlighted in the addresses made by the Chief Guest and the Guest of Honour. Both addresses also affirmed the importance of HR in driving an organization towards its vision. Prof. Amunugama further emphasized the importance of education by stating: “The fundamental purpose of education is to create and develop a better human being who will help to build a better and wiser world”. Seneviratne, in his address, provided the new graduates with invaluable tips on achieving stardom in creating a vibrant and successful future, stressing on pointers given: enthusiasm, seeking challenges, being self-reliant, and care for others. The commencing and conclusion notes of the event were presented by President IPM Sri Lanka, Air Vice Marshal Rohitha Ranasighe (Retd.,), and Hony. Secretary IPM Sri Lanka, Mr. C. Gannie, respectively.
The Institute of Personnel Management Sri Lanka (IPM) was established in 1959, and is a professional body incorporated by an Act of Parliament No. 24 of 1976. IPM is affiliated to the Asia Pacific Federation of Human Resource Management and World Federation of People Management Associations.
