The value of reading

Reading is a very useful hobby. It helps us to spend our leisure in a useful manner. We can improve our knowledge by reading. We could read storybooks, magazines and newspapers. We could also read books on various subjects.

We get pleasure by reading storybooks. Books can be regarded as our friends. By reading, we gain much knowledge on a variety of subjects. Reading helps us to look at the world in a new angle. We know that knowledge is power. So, one of the best ways to gain knowledge is to read.

Why I like to go to school

My school is Our Lady of Victories Convent, Moratuwa. I love to go to school because of many reasons. I can learn new things, I meet friends, play and share things with them. I love to do drawing and gymnastics. I look forward for the interval to play. I do my lessons well.

Now that the holidays are over, I look forward to go to school everyday.

I love my school and one day I will make it proud.

My trip to Kandy

September 21, 2012 was a very special day for me because it was my first educational excursion in school. We had to be in school at 5.30 a.m. We started our day by asking God to guide us throughout the trip. We got into our bus and began our long journey.

While we going in the bus we ate, sang songs, danced and enjoyed ourselves very much. We arrived at the Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage at 10 a.m. We saw many elephants there.

We had to go through a hotel named Elephant Bathing View Hotel. There were many souvenir shops on both sides of the road. We then left for the Dalada Maligawa, Kandy. We went into the blessed temple and saw the sacred Tooth Relic of Lord Buddha.

We saw lots of monkeys. Next we went to Montefano Ampitiya (Benedictine Monastery). We saw the cloak in which Lord Jesus Christ was wrapped in when he was kept in the tomb.

Then we left for Peradeniya Botanical Gardens and had lunch there. We also played in the large gardens. It was time for us to leave. So we all packed our bags and went to the bus. We were given ice-cream and drinks in the bus. We arrived back in Colombo at around 8 p.m.

When we arrived at school our parents were eagerly waiting to see our happy faces. I went home and told my parents about the marvellous scenes and wonders of the environment which I had encountered.

My playhouse

I have a playhouse in my garden. It is made of sticks and hay. Every evening my friends come to play. Inside the house we cook rice and curry. We cook them in clay pots. After cooking we eat in toy plates. We make tea in a toy kettle and drink in cups.

Sometimes my mother visits the toy house. Then I give her homemade cake and tea. I am so happy in my toy house.
