The Annual General Meeting of the General Council of the Sri Lanka Girl Guides Association was held on Saturday September 15, 2012 at the Defence Services College Auditorium, Colombo 2.  The Chief Guest at the occasion was Mr. Bandula Gunawardena, Minister of Education whilst the guest of honour was Deshabandu Jezima Ismail.

The meeting commenced with a welcome address by Mrs. Venetia Gamage, President of the Sri Lanka Girl Guides Association (SLGGA)  followed by a presentation of the Association’s activities 2011/2012. Mrs. Shanta Jayalath the Chief Commissioner of SLGGA next introduced the Chief Guest and Guest of Honour after which Mr. Bandula Gunawardena addressed the gathering.

The business meeting commenced with the adoption of the Minutes of the Annual General Meeting of the General Council held on September 17, 2011. Then Mrs. Jayalath presented the Annual Report of 2011/2012. Resignations and appointments were announced including the end of term of  service of Mrs. Venetia Gamage as President of the Association and the appointment of Mrs. Dushyanthi Perera as the new President.

A presentation by participants at international events was followed by the presentation of Awards where Little Friends, Guides, Senior Guides and Leaders were awarded for their achievements over the past year and their services rendered to the Association. One-hundred and eighteen Girl Guides were presented with the President’s Guide Award while eight Senior Guides were presented with the Prime Minister’s Award. The meeting then adjourned with the vote of thanks.
