Going for gold once more
View(s):It has been an exciting year for sport and the Elizabeth Moir School’s new production, VICTORY- The Musical Olympiad, hopes to capture some of that magic
This year’s concert, VICTORY, is themed on sports and the Olympics. For those who enjoyed the London Olympics, this show will help bring back to life some of those golden moments. It will feature dance routines that depict popular sports in different dance genres such as basketball/hip-hop, synchronised swimming/contemporary and martial arts/pop n lock, to name just a few.
The highlight of the show, which promises to captivate both the young and older members in the audience, is likely to be the cricket routine which will be accompanied by a live pappara band. As always the show will feature the very latest digital lighting and special effects available in Colombo and background video sequences projected onto a giant screen.
VICTORY- The Musical Olympiad, is directed by Aida Mansoor. The choreography and production work has been handled entirely by the students and is led by Dance President, Shevangi Sadeshkumar and Production Assistant, Khyla Muzni. The stunning choreography will be handled by the dynamic choreography team spear-headed by Dilroshini Karunaratne, Amar Riyaz and Francesca Muddanayake . The choir is led by the gifted Choir President, Loushanie Ranatunga and vocal direction is by Natalie Gooneratne. The choir has an impressive repertoire planned that will feature much loved sports anthems such as ‘Waka Waka’, ‘Waving Flags’ and ‘We are the Champions’ along with some of the inspiring Olympic songs.
VICTORY will go on board at the Lionel Wendt Theatre on November 2 and 3. Tickets are available at Elizabeth Moir Senior School at 4/20 Thalakotuwa Gardens, Colombo 5.
