Ace pupils shine at Sports Day
View(s):Ace Early Education and Daycare, with its vision to be a much sought-after educational institution, which continuously strives to address the constant need of providing quality education and care and instilling core values in a child, held its very first Sports Day on October 6.
The Sports Day, being fundamental to educational culture, was held at the Cooray Grounds, Wellawatte, and was organized with the objective of inculcating early lessons in sportsmanship and most importantly, the value and need for physical exercise. Games included many traditional toddler sports such as creative obstacle races, flat races and a fancy dress parade. The chief guest was Anne Wijesinghe, a well-known figure and Principal of the AWS Academy of Language and Speech.
The Principal of Ace Early Education and Daycare, Meena Burah responding to the question of whether very young children, particularly toddlers could grasp the concept of competition, said, “Our students are not quite old enough to understand the concept of competition, yet, it does give them a glimpse of things to come as they grow up and foster a sense of enjoyment of physical activity and exercise.”
Many activities are organized for these preschoolers throughout the year, including frequent Health Weeks- to teach the toddlers’ health and nutrition by encouraging them to eat a variety of healthy balanced meals- trips to the market, the zoo and other places of interest. The school also has Avurudu Celebrations, helping the preschoolers become familiar with our diverse cultures and local festivities, small in-house concerts to foster creativity, musicality and self-confidence, and the much-loved Spray Day, when the inflatable pools come out for children and teachers alike to have a blast splashing in the water and familiarizing themselves with natural elements like water, sand and mud.
The school has been established to deliver the most effective methods to help children ‘learn how to learn’. The school is located at 543/3, Galle Road, Wellawatte, and has approximately fifty children currently enrolled with many from Kindergarten class moving off to their ‘big schools’ in September. The school takes children between the age of 1 plus and 5 plus and also provides daycare services.
