Chuti Puthu, how we miss you
Precious Chuti Puthu, your third birthday dawned on October 28, but without your sweet presence. Cruel destiny snatched you away from us without any warning, leaving a void in our lives never to be filled.
Time has stood still in our lives since you departed, and beautiful memories of you are still fresh in our hearts as if it was yesterday.
Darling Chuti Puthu, how we miss you. Your sweet smile, childish prattle, the sound of your tiny footsteps, your adorable ways, the echo of your flying kiss and many other firsts in your short life reverberate in our hearts every waking moment of our lives.
Your exceptional talents at the tender age of 16 months gave us hope of a bright future for you. The way you chose your favourite songs when you wanted to sleep, and how happily you slept listening to music, relaxing in our arms – these can never be erased from our memories as long as we live.
Precious little bundle of love! Your too-short life is a beautiful memory but your absence has become a never-ending silent grief to us.
On your third birthday, our hearts are heavy with deep sadness, and as usual we hide our tears from each other.
Your unusual beginning, lovely life and sudden departure have left an everlasting emptiness in our lives that nobody can replace.
As Buddhists we understand life’s impermanence, but still we cannot come to terms with your loss. Our only consolation is Rebirth.
Today we made offerings at the Sacred Tooth Relic – your favourite place of worship, even at that tiny age.
We gave gifts to needy children so as to pass on blessings to you. May the blessings we pass on to you, darling Chuti Puthu, not only today but day in and day out since your demise, save you from another untimely death in your sojourn in Samsara, and give you the power to come back to us with a new beginning, and bring back the happiness you took away with you.
Your ever-loving Thaaththa, Amma and all the loved ones
Vajira and Prashanthi
