Excellent hospital service kept Ward 10 patient happy
It was with mixed feelings that I entered the Sri Jayawardena Pura General Hospital, Nugegoda, for left knee replacement surgery. I was pleasantly surprised that the admission process took only 10 minutes. I made my way to Ward 10, to meet the consultant orthopedic surgeon.
I was greeted by a smiling nurse who politely told me to take a seat till my bed was made ready. I saw a clean, neat and tidy ward, almost full. I lay in bed for three days, with nothing much to do, till the date of the operation. My eyes and ears worked overtime as I observed all that went on around me.
The dedication and patience of the Ward 10 doctors and medical staff was amazing. They work tirelessly day and night, round the clock, and even tactfully answer often silly questions from the patients. Their concern, efficiency and professionalism was outstanding and made each patient feel special.
The nursing staff were equally caring and hard-working. Not once did I hear a rude or harsh word from them, even with the difficult patients. Mention must be made of the male attendants who wheel in the food trolleys. Their concern that the patients ate well and kept strong was amusing but sincere.
The senior registrar anaesthetist said I would have to have a check-up the day before the operation. He was charming and professional.
After that I had no fears. I thanked the Lord for guiding me to some of the best medical staff in the country. The operation went well, and I am on my way to recovery.
When the top man is compassionate and efficient, the patients’ welfare foremost in his mind, all those who work under him follow suit. This is what makes Ward 10 of the Sri Jayawardena Pura General Hospital, Nugegoda so good.
