Outstation schools hold sway on day two
Two outstation schools Medabedda MV and St. Anthony’s from Galewela in the Matale district dominated the proceedings on day two of the 2nd All Island Schools Handball tournament being played at St John’s College ground in Panadura.
The two schools remained unbeaten in both the boy’s and girl’s categories to advance to the semi finals. The tournament which began on Friday saw Medabedda MV and St Anthony’s winning all their matches with ease.
In the quarter-final Medabedda MV overcame Nalanda ‘B’ and St. Anthony’s got the better of Isipathana ‘C’. Defending champions Prince of Wales who are slotted in Group ‘A’ too ended with a hundred percent record with four wins out of four while last year’s runner-up D.S. Senanayake Colombo achieved the same feat.
There were two other teams to book berths to the semi-finals with Prince of Wales receiving a walk over from their second string team and DSS overcoming Isipathana ‘B’ in the quarter-final encounters.
The cup-semi final line up for today is: Prince of Wales vs St. Anthony’s and DSS vs Medabadda Vidyalaya.
Meanwhile in the girl’s category Medabedda BV and St. Anthony’s BV Galewela emulated their boys with the two teams advancing to the semi-finals after winning all their matches in the league stage.
St. Anthony’s will meet Buddhists Ladies and Medabedda BV will confront Anula BV. The Plate semi-final clashes are: Devi Balika ‘B’ vs Girl’s High School and Devi Balika ‘C’ vs Buddhist Ladies.
The curtains of the tournament will ring down today with the final slotted to be played from 4.00 p.m. onwards.
