Zahira Mini Rugby Carnival today
View(s):The Zahira Old Boys Rugby Association (ZOBRA) will stage its Mini Rugby Carnival, an event arranged as part of Zahira College’s 120th anniversary celebrations, today at the school’s ground in Maradana.
ZOBRA revealed that they have made arrangements to host the event in a grand fashion for the first time. The event will take place as an inter-school tournament with 12 teams competing in the Under-12 age category. The 12 teams will be divided into four groups in the first round and based on their results in this round they will be drawn into the categories of Cup, Plate and Bowl. The champions will walk away with the trophy and fabulous medals and other gifts.
The Under-12 teams of Ananda College, C.W.W. Kannangara MV, Wesley College, S. Thomas Prep, Mahanama College, Carey College, D.S. Senanayake College, Nalanda College, Hindu College, Prince of Wales and Zahira College, Colombo have confirmed their participation.
Zahira College, one of the pioneer rugby-playing schools in the island, under its rugby development wing ZOBRA, has been conducting programmes to develop and popularise the sport in the school since its inauguration in 2010.
As a result, the group’s brainchild, the ‘Zobra Rugby Nursery’ has become a huge success. Through this project, ZOBRA has been able to pick talented players to represent the college’s Under-12 rugby team. The main sponsors of this event are Q.P. Employment, M. Z. M. Anver & Sons, Unixsigns, and KiK Cola.
