Around 150 foreign companies and chambers are to be recognized for their services to the economy and investment made in Sri Lanka creating employment opportunities during the 1985-2009 period of terrorism in the country, a media release issued by the Minstry of Industry and Commerce said.

The Global Commerce Excellence awards will be presented to these companies for the first time at a ceremony to be held at the newly refurbished Ceylon Continental Hotel on December 13.

It is being organised to recognise international companies and chambers operating in Sri Lanka before the war ended in 2009 and who helped to create jobs and economic activity against all odds during the terror period of the LTTE, the media release said.

Various companies including foreign chambers representing the investment, manufacturing, export, aviation, shipping, banks, tourism, telecommunication and logistic services have been nominated for these awards.

The event is organised by Airport Aviation Services, Board of Investment, Sri Lanka Ports Authority along with the Shippers’ Academy Colombo under the guidance of the Governor of the Central Bank Ajith Nivard Cabraal.
