SGM ends in withdrawal

A Special General Meeting was held yesterday at Havelock’s Sports Club to obtain approval for its current President Tyrone Coonghe to continue in office for another year. However the proposal was withdrawn following the counselling by senior members who advised that it was not a prudent move. A section of the forum felt that this needed a constitutional amendment as the current one allowed only a third term by consensus of the membership.

Havelock Sports Club has been experiencing a lean period in recent times that took neither the club nor rugby forward.

There has seen resurgence this year during the third year of the Presidency of Coonghe and included winning the league title and improving a ground and a pavilion that is keeping with the times. In the midst of the revival, club sources confirmed that a proposal of this nature would have had a vote for as well as against. At this stage of regaining past glory most felt a vote could have seen the galvanizing of two camps and would not have been the best decision as this is the first year since the club has started to get back.
