Shopping spree
View(s):Shopping spree
200 odd sportsmen and women of yesteryear took wing to a neighbouring Asian country to take part in an Asian Meet. What’s more there were a staggering number of officials as well. Even before the meet ended some of these sportsmen, women and officials were seen shopping to their hearts content in Bangkok. Those in the know say that this trip was pre-planned and the main reason was to go shopping. How lucky can one get!
Come what may
Recently a sports director who had opposed to teams making tours, especially by schools teams retired from service. However on the day that he retired he took off to a European country with a team. How come this man who had earlier vehemently opposed to teams going abroad without experience and practice had agreed to take off with this team on this tour? The grapevine reports that he had been planning this trip for a long time and when the opportunity came, even on the day that he retired, he grabbed the opportunity come what may.
Making a fast buck
The liaison officer of a popular sport is being suspected of making a fast buck by using the names of popular stars involved in the game at a recently concluded competition. He has been boldly making references to the sportsmen involved and had sold quite a lot of tickets in this way, at very high prices. He is said to have made quite a lot of money in the process as well. This chap acts as if he owns the players and even prevents fans from visiting them at matches.
Simply shocking
Sri Lanka’s expected place at a recent Asian competition was lost and fans are aghast that they could not gain the top spot even after the hours of practice that the team had put in for this contest. Now it has surfaced that a junior player was involved in a shocking episode with a senior player which an official has described as ‘simply shocking.’ Could this incident be one of the reasons for the teams defeat at this contest where they were the favourites to triumph?
Crying in vain
Over now to the incident where a top former sprint queen was to attend a seminar in a neighbouring Asian country but she was reluctant to attend because she was not conversant with the Queen’s language. It is now revealed that this invitation was really for an ex-co member of the sports body concerned and the person who should really have attended is crying in vain that even an invitation to a junior associate to a foreign country is being targeted by powerful individuals and what is the situation of minor employees on
matters like this!
All’s well
All is well in a popular sports body these days. Those who had opposed to certain officials holding office in this sports body are thick pals and are willing to work with those who are holding office. Could the reason be that money solves many problems ad those who had opposed to the sports big wigs earlier have now been compensated and are willing to work like dogs for the benefits that they are expecting?
