Call for criminal charges against EPF plunderers
I was happy to read your editorial two weeks back.
The country is facing one of the biggest challenges of our times. The government has impeached the Chief Justice. It seems they want to install a puppet CJ they can manipulate. What a shame? The Chief Justice from the time she was appointed should have shown her independence without allowing herself to be compromised over a few controversial judgments (18th amendment and agreeing that military courts are equal to regular courts) she would have stood tall and come out as a hero. Also with her spouse taking on a government role the entire equation changed for the worse. The Bribery Commission has now run to court against her husband.
What happens to the others involved in the deal, Preethi Jayawardana, Chairman of The Finance Company and the board members of NSB? Why is the Bribery Commission going slow on the application filed by MP Sujeewa Senasinghe against the Central Bank Governor, Monetary Board and senior officials of the Bank for buying dud Greek Bonds? Our fervent hope is that all those responsible directly and indirectly in the public and private sector for plundering or helping to plunder the EPF money and state funds should be criminally charged whether they are employed in the public or private sectors.
If S.B. Dissanayake and General Sarath Fonseka (the man who nearly sacrificed his life for the country) could be jailed on frivolous charges why not those who have plundered state funds and got rich at the expense of the poor workers.
It is only the courts that can save the fund from these people because the opposition is now an extension to the current anarchy.
What is the opposition leader Ranil Wickremasinghe who is now talking of “Socialism with equity” doing when public funds are being plundered and the Chief Justice is being impeached?
