“Angara Ganga” flows again
View(s):‘Angara Ganga Gala Basi’ famous drama in the 80s was directed by Ranjith Dharmakeerthi and music composed by the late Master Premasiri Kemadasa had its Muhurath ceremony for the new production recently.
With a host of popular artist such as; Sunethra Sarathchchandra, Neil Alles, Nishshanka Diddeniya, Jayalath Manorathna, Elson Divithuragama, Daya Alwis and Somalatha Subasinghe in action, T.M. Jayarathne, Edward Jayakody, Sunila Abeysekara, Ramya Wanigasekara and Manike Aththanayake colour up the original drama with renditions of songs lyrics written by Dr. Ajantha Ranasinghe and the melodious music directed by the late Kemadasa Master.
The new production will consist of students from the University of the Visual and Performing Arts, selected artists from the Kavitha programme and upcoming singers of the new generation while popular young artists will join in acting. The preceding artists of the earlier production wished the young performers and handed over the scripts at the Muhurath ceremony and new production is to be staged towards the end of February 2013.
The new production of “Angara Ganga Gala Basi” will be presented to its new audience using new production methods that would not harm or change its earlier condition, said director Ranjith Dharmakeerthi speaking about the relaunch of the play. Senior lecturer of University of the Visual & Performing Arts, Prasannajith Abeysuriya is the assistant director while costume designs and stage settings will be handled by Suwinitha Perera and Lalith Jayalal who was a senior lecturer in the same university. Jude Srimal organises the drama shows.
