Left arm spinner Julian de Zylva along with Janith Liyanage and Jason Buultjens combined to guide St Peter’s to a comfortable eight wicket win over De Mazenod Kandana in their Under 19 inter-school cricket encounter concluded at Bambalapitiya yesterday.

Julian ended the match with a fine match bag of 9 for 83 while Janith and Jason put on a valuable 65 runs stand for the third wicket in the Peterites run chase of 112 runs.

Earlier in the day St Peter’s resuming from their overnight score of 101 for 5 went on to make a score of 195 which came on the back of a quick fire 32 ball knock of 50 by Buultjens which had three boundaries and five sixes.

This was in reply to the Mazenodian’s first innings score of 150. De Mazenod batting the second time was mesmerized by spinner Julian who grabbed five wickets following his four wicket haul in the first innings as they were restricted to a score of 156.

This left St Peter’s a target of 112 runs in 14 overs which they needed just 10.5 overs thanks to a fine knock of 65 in 35 balls with a boundary and four sixes by Janith and an unbeaten 39 in 14 balls with three sixes by Jason to achieve it.

D.S. Senanayake College dominated the proceedings in their drawn Under 19 match against Royal which concluded at the Surrey Village ground in Maggona yesterday.

DSS having declared their innings on their overnight score of 283 for 7 had the Royalists struggling on 83 for 4 at the lunch break. They never recovered from there on as right arm pacie Binura Fernando wrecked the batting to bundle them out for a meager 143. Binura ended with impressive figures of 6 for 29 which followed his top score of 65 in the DSS innings.

Royal made to follow-on with a deficit of 140 runs was helped by a knock of 74 by Sampath de Silva who along with Poorna Aluthge was associated in an unbroken 115 runs for the fourth wicket which saw them end the day on 141 for 3.
