Gateway clinch U-17 cricket C.T.A Shaffter Challenge Trophy

Gateway International School Colombo emerged champions of the Under-17 Inter-International Schools’ Cricket Tournament by beating OKI International School Wattala comprehensively in the final, which was a 40-over per-side game. OKI batted first and were bundled out for 88 runs in 34.1 overs. However, Gateway’s cricketers made use of just 16.1 overs to race to a convincing six-wicket win, minutes before rain came down.
In the preliminary round Gateway beat Stafford, Ikra, British and Belvoir International Schools before thrashing Elizabeth Moir School in the quarterfinal stage. In the semi-final round, Gateway beat their sister School, Gateway College Kandy. Gateway Kandy reached the semi-final stage by beating Lyceum International Nugegoda.
Gateway’s cricketers significantly swept almost all the individual awards that were on offer for the final game as well as for the tournament. Visal Gunaratne won the Man-of-the-Final award for his prolific contribution. Adib Hassan was named the Best Batsman of the Final while Thiwanka de Silva won the Best Bowler’s award. Ashfaaq Mistha was named as the Best Fielder in the Final. Izmir Mohammed of the victorious Gateway team won the Man-of-the-Tournament award. The tournament was organized by Wycherley International School for the 17th successive occasion.
