Singing lullabies

A skipper for a competition to be held in Singapore was changed at the last minute. This player has a good reputation but a little too old to be a player even though she is still good in her position and a good reader of the game. She approached the Big an in Sports and cried her heart out. The Big Man succumbed to her request and made her the skipper again. They say that the Big Man was even singing a lullaby to the lady when he made the change.

Sleepy heads

The Sports Big Man berated officials of a leading sports body calling them Sleepy Heads because no noteworthy performances had been produced by this body during the entire year. The Big Man called these officials Sleepy Heads, but it so happened that a favourite of the Sports Big Man was amongst those Sleepy Heads.

Harassed mentally

The Astro Turf was a hive of activity last week because the nationals of a top sport were being worked out. The side that emerged champions belonged to the body that guards the nation. However the opponents too were of the same category even though they played under a different banner and were told not to play at their best because some top officials wanted this particular team to win. Because of this warning the team that led 1-0 at the breather was soundly beaten 5-1 in the final. Experts who knew the scene said that the losers were were mentally harassed!

Judging what?

A sports festival was held in Colombo and some judges, who know nothing about judging, were made to judge these events. It is said that these officials were brought in so that they would cast their votes in favour of the man who nominated them as judges when the moment arrives. These judges were paid a salary, traveling allowance and were even provided accommodation to judge at this four day event.

‘Suba Anagathayak’

A top sports body was excited at the visit of the top most sports official in the country. There was the added glamour as the sports big man was visiting this body on his birthday! An official, who is a favourite of the sports big man, was nominated to greet the man on his arrival at their headquarters. In his agitated state of the mind this official blurted out: ‘Suba Anagathayak’, instead of saying ‘Suba Upan Dinayak’. Even a cake was cut to celebrate the occasion but a cloud remained on the happenings after the initial greeting.

The spitting scene

An official of a top sports body is holding his head due to the recommendations made by a foreign official – which are quite hard hitting. This official is the one who recommended that this foreigner should be consulted for the changes in the first place. The changes made in the report are hard hitting alright! What’s more it was he (in the first place) who suggested that this particular foreigner should be employed for the task. Some say that it is a case of spitting whilst looking upwards!
