JNTUH students reach out to rural schools
View(s):Inspired by Nelson Mandela’s message “Education is the only tool with you to change this world”, B.Tech and M.Tech students of JNTUH College of engineering, Nachupally in Karimnagar embarked upon an ambitious task of providing education to rural students of government schools.
Campaign
“Team Tejomaya” took up the ‘Educational awareness campaign in government schools’ project with the sole objective of reducing dropout rate and explaining to them the importance of pursuing higher education.
Empowering the students from Stds. V-Xof government schools in the vicinity of the engineering college in NAchupally the JNTUH students have a hectic schedule preparing the government school students for the Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya entrance examinations, teaching English language through visual aids and newspapers, educational games, offering career guidance and personality development lessons, taking up communication skills workshops, imparting knowledge on competitive exams and entrance tests, with special classes on various subjects being organised as part of the project.
Bright future
“We are happy to reach out to the rural students,” says Benny Moses, a B.Tech 3rd year student.
Nikhil Prathapani from B.Tech adds, “I was moved by the plight of girl students. The aim is to empower the rural students and tell them about the importance of higher education so that they have a bright future.” For most college students it was a lesson in building leadership skills along with providing rural children a good academic foundation.
The JNTUH students want to take their mission forward in an effort to transform the rural schools as model schools by providing all the required guidance to the students.
