Located just a few Kilometers away from the Ambalangoda town, it is very easy to reach the school from all directions. The surrounding of the school provides students the peace of mind to study even though the school is very close to a populated area.
The founder Principal Dayawansha Ginige together with seven teachers initiated the school in 1986 to commemorate the former educationist and a great politician, P. De S. Kularathna. At first there were only 65 students with a few classes and limited facilities. Now the school has come a long way achieving many milestones, both locally and internationally. That has been one reason for the popularity of the present Kularathne Vidyalaya. Meanwhile the students have shown their talents by winning zonal and district level places in sports and academic events.
The major turning point in the history of Kularathne Vidyalaya took place after May 10, 1994 after Maduwage Gunasena assumed duties as the principal. science laboratories, auditoriums, sports equipment and musical instruments and has become a top grade school in the region, providing the students with the necessary background to reach the highest peak in the school education. The fast improvement has not slowed down; in fact it is still heading towards new goals through the guidance of the present principal G.W.Jagath Senarathne.
