Renewed Optimism at IESL Centre, North Central Province AGM
View(s):The Institution of Engineers, Sri Lanka (IESL) Centre, North Central Province held its Annual General Meeting on Thursday, 11th Oct, 2012 at Anuradhapura in the presence of a large gathering of its members, distinguished guests and special invitees. Eng.Nihal Rupasinghe – Chairman CECB graced the occasion as the Chief Guest.
The IESL is the premier professional body for the engineering profession in the country. Its vision is to be among the leading professional institutions and a Centre for Excellence and Leadership in the field of Engineering and Technology in Asia.The IESL head officeis in Colombo while the IESLCentres which are the provincial arms of the institution help extend membership services to engineers serving in the provinces.Rapid transformation underway in the modus operandi of the IESL with the use of current technology to make its services more accessible to its members is expected to reach new heights under the presidency of Eng. Tilak De Silva, an Electronics and Telecommunication Engineer, in its 2012/2013 session.
That the North Central Province is where the predecessor of the IESL, the Engineering Association of Ceylon, was first established in 1906 by a few Government Officers serving in the province gives it special significance among IESL Centres
Eng. J.A.D.R. Sujith Kumara was elected as Chairman at the AGM of the IESL Centre – North Central Province and will steer the Centre during the new sessions. He has graduated from the University of Peradeniya in 1997, obtained his Masters Degree in Project Managementfrom University of Moratuwa
in 2010 and became a member of the Institution of Engineers, Sri Lanka (IESL) in 2004. He joined the Central Engineering Consultancy Bureau (CECB) in 1997 and has served initially as Site Engineer, Resident Engineer in a multitude of CECB Projects. He was promoted as a Project Manager in 2006 and served as such in projects undertaken by the CECB in the Sabaragamuwa Province. He was awarded a JICA Scholarship to follow a short course on Disaster Management in Japan. He is currently the Deputy Project Manager for Special Projects at the CECB handling the projects in Anuradhapura, Polonnaruwa, Mannar and Vauniya districts.
Other office bearers elected at the AGM were Eng. (Ms)D.L.B.PWijesekera (PED) as Secretary,Eng.P.PSenevirathna (CEB) as Vice Chairman, Eng. (Ms) M.P.P Dilhani(PED) as Treasurer, Eng. Sherly Kumara (CEB) as Asst. Secretary and Eng. C.S Lokubarana (NWSDB) as Editor. Meanwhile Eng. Nalin Pothuwila (CECB), Eng. RenukaHemachandra (CECB), Eng. RanjanaAmarasingha (NWSDB), Eng. PrasannaThilakrathne (ID) and Eng. SrimaBandara (IPHT) were elected as Committee Members. In addition Eng. Sudarshani (CEB), Eng. M Mauran (ID), Eng. Vajira Hapuarachchi (PED), Eng. Kasun Dissanayake (RDA), Eng. N.V.H.S.K Vithanage (NWSDB), Eng. ChanakaKaluwardana (PRDA), Eng. P Munasingha (MASL), Eng.K.B.D.Sadaruwan (CECB), Eng. Mahesh Dissanayaka (IPHT), Eng. S.M.J.M Senanayaka (SLT), Eng. NiranjanaDhanapala (Health), Eng. G.G Senavirathna and Eng. W.G.SunimalBandara were elected as Representative Members.
