Salford would like to invite you to ‘Spend an evening with Salford’ event which will be held on Wednesday the 5th December 2012 at 308-301, R.A. De Mel Mawatha, Colombo 03. The session will start sharp at 6:30 pm.

Mr. Sam Burney Senior Recruitment officer (South Asia), Salford University will be available at the session to discuss about the Salford and the pathways to it with you. Salford is an ambitious university at the heart of a fast-developing community. Our expertise is helping to transform individuals and communities through excellent teaching, research, innovation and engagement.

Located 2.5km from the centre of Manchester, England, The University of Salford is a research-led university particularly famous for its links with industry, commerce and the arts. Salford Royal Technical Institute was established in 1896 and powered the chemical engineering innovation that drove the Industrial Revolution in Manchester. By working closely with industry, Salford developed courses that were closely aligned to the needs of employers and the wider community. This philosophy continued after Salford’s expansion during the twentieth century, and its University Charter in 1967, and has led to a reputation for “academic enterprise” – the joining up of teaching and research with the wider society – and professionally accredited courses. Salford’s history has been littered with examples of innovative partnerships between academia and “the real world”. For example, during the 1980s, Salford introduced the world’s first industrial placement or “sandwich year” scheme, whereby undergraduate students were offered the chance to spend one year of their degree outside the classroom, working for one of the many companies cooperating with the university. Today more than three out of four Bachelors programmes at the university offer such placements. This focus on courses leading to careers creates outstanding international opportunities for graduates in the world’s leading companies, from Airbus to Microsoft and government service to the creative industries.

The University has approximately 21,000 students enrolled on courses including business, finance, engineering, quantity surveying, construction, arts, social sciences, law, healthcare, computing, media, and design. Students study at either the University’s historic Peel Park campus, situated beside the UK’s first public park, or at MediaCityUK, home to the BBC and other leading UK media organisations. The University of Salford is an international community with students and staff from more than 100 countries. There are currently close to hundred of Sri Lankans studying at Salford but this is expected to increase with the announcement of generous new scholarship schemes.
