Film Directors Guild formed

A group of Sri Lankan filmmakers have come together to form a guild to promote Sri Lankan cinema and find solutions to the prevailing problems in the local cinema.

The Guild will meet for the first time on December 4 at 5 pm at the Sri Lanka Foundation Institute Colombo.
The filmmakers are to discuss the formulation of a set of policies for the development of Sri Lanka cinema. Among the policies ro be adopted are a national policy for cinema, of an investor friendly distribution policy and the promotion of digital technology for Sri Lankan cinema.

The chairman of this new guild is internationally acclaimed filmmaker Prasanna Vithanage while the secretary is Benette Ratnayake. Veteran film directors like Dr. D. B. Nihalsinghe, Dr. Dharmasena Pathiraja, Sumithra Peries, Tissa Liyanasuriya and Dharmasiri Bandaranayake joined by Vimukthi Jayasundara, Asoka Handagama, Chandran Rutnam, Sunil Soma Peiries, Malani Fonseka, Chandraratne Mapitigama, Senesh Dissanayake Bandara, V. Shivadashan and Sarath Dharmasiri will comprise the executive committee of the guild.
