Japanese music with ‘Aun and Hide’ at NYSC
View(s):In commemoration of the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Japan and Sri Lanka, the Embassy of Japan together with the Japan Foundation will present musical performances featuring a renowned Japanese traditional musical group ‘Aun and Hide’ in Maharagama and Colombo in December.
The first concert will be held at the National Youth Service Council (NYSC), Maharagama at 7.00 pm. on 7th December and the second concert will be held at the Hotel School Auditorium, Colombo 3, at 2.30 p.m. on 8th December. Admission to these concerts will be free of charge and on first come first served basis.
‘Aun and Hide’ features three talented Japanese artistes playing traditional Japanese musical instruments such as taiko (drums), shamisen (Japanese guitar), fue (Japanese flute) and Japanese traditional percussion presenting a mix of classics, semi-classics and modern music. Aun was formed by twin brothers Ryohei and Kohei Inoue both brothers play the taiko (drums), the shamisen (Japanese guitar) and the fue (Japanese flute).
AUN has appeared four times at Carnegie Hall in New York City and has received Emmy Awards as leading members of ONDEKOZA. In 2000 they launched AUN with the aim of developing a unique style of music. They have performed more than 1000 shows in 40 countries.
HIDE (Hideyuki Saito) joined a leading taiko drums group ‘KODO’ in 1987. During his 17 years of experience with KODO, he performed in over 150 cities around the world, and collaborated with various musicians and artists including Sir Paul McCartney, Donal Lunny Band, Terumasa Hino, Seitaro Kuroda, Kiyohiko Senba, and Hitoshi Komuro.
