Elkaduwa Best Sportsman of St. Thomas’ Matale
Fifty seven young Thomians received College Colours in recognition of their outstanding achievements in the field of sports during the
period 2011-2012 at the ‘Colours Nite’ of St. Thomas’ College Matale held at the Charles Robinson memorial hall in their school.
A distinguished old Thomian of the Robinson era and presently a Canadian resident Edmund C. Wijesinghe graced the occasion as the Chief Guest with two other old Thomians – M Ratnaharan, Vice President of Matale St. Thomas’ OBA Colombo branch and Asitha Senanayake, Manager Commercial Bank Passara as guests of honour.
‘Rising Sun’ is the highest award and the two recipients for this prestigious award were L.D. Madushanka in cricket and A.B. Elkaduwa in power lifting.
L.D. Madushanka (Cricket), B.P. Parahitiyawa (Hockey), W.M.J. C. Bandara (Soccer), L.R.S. Rathnakumara (Rugby), T.A.G. Punchihewa (Athletics) and Bandara M.T.U.S. (Cadetting) were the students who received best player awards for the year 2012.
A.B. Elkaduwa was crowned as the most outstanding sportsman of the year 2012 for his excellent performances in Athletics, Soccer and Power lifting.
