Under-15 will commence on December 4.

The competition which attracts over 560 young cricketers from all parts of the country, including the north and east, will see 28 teams vying for honours in the preliminary stage.

The competition was officially launched by the officials of Prima Group and Sri Lanka Cricket at the sports governing body’s headquarters at Maitland Place.

According to the organisers the 28 teams based on district level will compete against each other in a league competition. The sides will be then be pruned down to 10 provincial teams with the best players from district teams taking its slots.

“It’s nice to see teams from Kilinochchi and Mulaitivu coming into the competition for the first time since the dawn of peace. Having successfully conducted this tournament for five years with tremendous results, we have signed with SLC to continue our sponsorship for three more years, with the view to further develop junior cricket in Sri Lanka,” Tan Beng Chuan, the General Manager of Prima Group told reporters. “We are happy to see in Akila Dananjaya the proof to our efforts being fruitful in producing a national cricketer and we wish to take this opportunity to thank the SLC coaching staff and Sri Lanka captain Mahela Jayawardene for spotting his talent and giving him the due place,” Shun Tien Shing , the Prima general Manager said.

According to the tournament plans, the sponsors, Prima will provide all teams with total nutrition and cricketing gear. In addition all teams will receive professional guidance from the SLC coaching staff. The final of the competition will be played on December 19 with live television coverage. – NA
