Professional courses can also be considered as vocational training
Vocational education is not the only kind of skilled training for professional courses of study but s could be categorised as vocational education, according to Prof. Dayantha Wijeyesekera, Chairman, Tertiary and Vocational Education Commission (TVEC).He was speaking as chief guest at the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants, Sri Lanka (CIMA) Business Case Awards 2012, held in Colombo last week.
MAS Active (Pvt) Ltd team won the Best Case Study award, while the first runner up was the team from Elephant House Ice Cream and the second runner-up was the team from Bharthi Airtel (Pvt) Ltd.
Prof Wijesekera said that the topics assigned for the case studies are relevant to the development of the country. He indicated that among the 34 professional bodies in Sri Lanka CIMA as a unique characteristic of being both affiliated to the foreign parent body and also registration
He said that he is aware that many engineering undergraduates pursue CIMA course of study while studying engineering as they have realized that there would be much benefits by doing so.
Dirk Pereira, Chairman, CIMA Sri Lanka Board said that the CIMA qualification creates financial leaders in operational management with strong focus on ethics.
CIMA is about creating business opportunities and these opportunities come with the need for leadership, he quipped.
There has not been a better time for business in Sri Lanka, Mr Pereira said and indicated that it is challenging, complex and moving at a much faster pace, but leadership puts it altogether
